Palazzo Cendon : ウィキペディア英語版 | Palazzo Cendon
The Palazzo Cendon is a minor 15th century palace in Venice, Italy, located just off the southern promenade of the Cannaregio Canal (Fondamenta Savorgnan), about 200 feet east of Rio della Crea. ==History== Originally erected as a house by the wealthy, but not aristocratic, merchant family of Cendons. Like the nobility, many of the cittadini originarii adopted heraldic shields and coats of arms claiming ancient or Roman origins; in this case, a stripe adorned with three stars. On the lower part of a shield found on the facade is the inscription: ''Centonia Fam. Nob. Olim Rom. Parm. Q. Ex Qua Pata Et Vene. Civil. MCCCCXXXVII''.〔(Palzzo Cendon ), hotel official site.〕 According to this inscription, the Centon or Cendon family flourished first in Rome and Parma and than moved to Padua and eventually Venice, by 1437. The original house was extended to form what was recognized by some as a small palace by 1501.〔(Venice on Foot: With the Itinerary of the Grand Canal and Several Direct Routes to Useful Places ), by Hugh A. Douglas, Methuen & Co. 36 Essex Street, London, (1907) page 221.〕 It is presently a hotel.〔Hotel site.〕
